Deep Litter Method on Coop Floors

Cleaning out the coop or preparing for first time use.

Once a year we remove all roosting bars and the old organic matter/litter from the coop and nest boxes.

Scrape all wood surfaces to remove caked on matter and then wire brush.  We use a leaf blower and remove all dust.

Add water to Barn Yard Lime in a 5 gallon bucket to make a slurry.

WIth a masonry or wallpater brush whitewash all those wood surfaces with the BYL slurry.

After everything is whitewashed we sling the remaining sandy residue all over the whitewashed surfaces.  Let dry.

Rebuilding the Deep Litter.

We add a good coating over the whitewashed areas of BYL.
